Film-Philosophy Conference Dates:

Wednesday 2 July - Friday 4 July 2014

Glasgow will be a vibrant and busy city in summer 2014, with the Commonwealth Games taking place 23 July to 3 August.

Whilst the Film-Philosophy conference will take place before this busy time, it is still advisable to book accommodation in advance.

The University of Glasgow Halls of Residence offer very reasonable accommodation, with rooms costing as little as £25 or £45, depending on availability:

Alternatively, there are various ways of booking hotels, such as via the University’s hotel’s booking website (which offers a range of 2 star to 5 star options):,

or via websites like VisitScotland:

or simply independently.

The conference venue is the Gilmorehill Halls, an especially converted church a stone’s throw from the main University Building (Gilmorehill Campus). Please see the location on google maps here:,0,11813049623677651331&ei=gDaOUu69BtTwhQecyYGgDg&ved=0CDwQrwswAA

This is the West End of Glasgow, the postcode for much of which is G12.

Nearby, there are many hotels and bed and breakfasts clustered around Byres Road, including a sizeable Hilton Hotel. Byres Road, and its corner with Great Western Road, is a central location for restaurants, cafes, bars and supermarkets in the West End. It is serviced by the “Hillhead” subway, which is a short ride into the Buchanan Street Station in the city centre (which is, in turn, a short walk from Central Station).

Accommodation further afield may well be accessible via the local bus, overland train, and subway routes.
